What Is LCD?
Liquid Crystal Display, otherwise known as LCD, are televisions that use LCD technology to produce the images that you see on screen. They are thinner and lighter than CRT?s. This technology allows for a better quality picture with less mechanics, meaning larger TV?s without the bulk.
Size Does Matter
CRT televisions, due to the large mechanics that go into them, only are made up to 30 inches and are very heavy. Televisions that needed to be larger were using the rear projection technology and too were very heavy. The LCD television can be as large as 100 inches and still be handled by two people easily for moving and transporting. The thin back that comes along with LCD televisions allows for hanging on a wall, a ceiling or placed upon stands.
Image Quality
In the earlier sets, the LCD technology did not offer very high quality; there were ghosting issues on fast moving images, muddy colors and a poor contrast ratio. Today, LCD televisions offer very high quality image; the issues with the technology have been addressed and now the quality is much better than that of the CRT and rear projection models.
